Organic Fertilizers – The Gift to Your Soil

Don’t be fooled by the claims made by synthetic chemical fertilizers!  While they occasionally have their uses, organic fertilizer is by far the better overall choice for your garden in nearly all situations.

The balance of the growth cycle in nature is a finely-tuned system which has developed over billions of years of evolution, creating a setup which self-perpetuates.  Crops and other plants can grow year after year, century after century, without ever fully depleting the soil.  Organic fertilizers help continue this process, whereas chemicals can interrupt it.

There Are Plenty Of Reasons You Should Use Organic Fertilizers!

1 – More complete nutrient balance.

The vast majority of chemical fertilizers only target the three “main” ingredients in soil that plants need to grow: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK).  While these are certainly very important, they are NOT all that a plant needs!

Organic fertilizers, on the other hand, contain dozens of essential nutrients, minerals, and (often) micro-organisms.  They have all the basics as well as the equivalent of vitamin supplements for your crops.

2 – Organics replenish the Earth.

Because organic fertilizers are made from the same stuff that’s been growing plants for millions of years, they contribute positively to the soil cycle and help keep it fertile.  Harsh chemical fertilizers can easily put the soil in imbalance if they’re overused, making the soil inhospitable to plants and creating a cycle of having to fertilize with even more foreign chemicals just to undo the damage done by the previous chemicals.

3 – Organic fertilizers create healthier plants.

Many chemical fertilizers bypass the traditional biological systems plants use to feed themselves.  This could be compared to a person who’s kept continuously on an IV nutrient feed, rather than being allowed to feed themselves normally.  Over time, this will cause many of their body processes to degrade, weakening their bodies.

Again, organic fertilizers work with the plant, rather than against it.

4 – Organics are cheap to make.

Organic fertilizer doesn’t require petroleum products, costly lab-produced additives, or anything like that.  Fundamentally, all they require is manure or other composted materials.  Many are made exclusively out of waste food products created by other industries!

One takes byproducts and turns them into food; the other creates new waste byproducts that harm the Earth.
